In all major drama schools around the world there is at least one class a week dedicated to poetry.

This is because poetry is a training ground for actors. Poetry is heightened, typically complex, text. It offers challenges to the actor that aren’t found in most scripts for film and TV.

The more you learn about poetry and the more confident you are with poetic language the better placed you will be when an audition comes along for Shakespeare, Moliere, Marlowe and many other poetic playwrights.
